Rachel’s Home in Volcano, HI
Join Wai’ala Ahn - a multigenerational flower farmer, naturalist and art educator - and Rachel Quinlan - folk herbalist and Ayurvedic chef - for an afternoon of learning about medicinal plant dyes, making medicine and enjoying some nourishing eats that are inspired by the plants we are using to make dyes and medicine. Our intention in creating a this workshop was to showcase the medicine of plants 3 ways.
Flow of Workshop
As you arrive you will have time to enjoy some herbal tea and settle in as Waiʻala leads the medicinal plant dye portion of the afternoon. You will get to create a one of a kind keepsake piece that captures the colors of medicinal plant hues. Wai’ala will speak to the medicinal benefits of each plant we will create color with not only when taken internally, but for the skin. We will bundle dye with the herbs and have the opportunity to dip that bundle dye into a beautiful dye bath creating a stunning array of color medicine.
As our pieces are being infused with beautiful color Rachel will offer an organic nourishing meal and botanical elixirs utilizing the plants Wai’ala is using in the dye portion. She will speak to the medicinal benefits and the elemental properties of the tenderly handcrafted dishes. The meal will be focused on balancing our bodies in the spring season.
Following our meal Rachel will lead the medicine making portion where she will teach you how to make a delicious custom oxymel with the various herbs we have been working with.
